Coal River Valley

Only a 20 minute drive from Hobart, the vineyards of the Coal River Valley, between Cambridge and the historic village of Richmond, are acclaimed for the quality of their cool-climate wines. Pinot noir, chardonnay, riesling and sauvignon blanc are the classic varieties here. Many of the vineyards open their cellar doors for tastings and sales and there are several excellent vineyard restaurants. The Coal River Valley Wine Route makes an ideal a half or full-day tour, depending on how long you choose to linger amongst the vines. Organised wine tours with a driver enable you to really enjoy your sampling as you travel from vineyard to vineyard.
